Dry eye disease is a common yet often frustrating condition that affects millions of people. Many cases stem from underlying issues such as meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), blepharitis, and even demodex mite infestations along the lash line. Traditional treatments like artificial tears can provide temporary relief, but they often fail to address the root cause.
At Reed Optical, we’re proud to offer NuLids—a cutting-edge solution designed to provide lasting relief from dry eye symptoms and enhance your eye health.
NuLids is a specialized eyelid cleaning device designed to remove debris, biofilm buildup, and mites from the lid margin. This advanced treatment tool offers a convenient and effective way to promote better eye health by gently exfoliating the lash line, improving the function of the meibomian glands, and enhancing tear production.
The NuLids system features a soft, oscillating tip that moves in gentle circular motions across the eyelid margin. This process effectively:
Removes debris and biofilm that can clog the meibomian glands.
Helps manage blepharitis by exfoliating dead skin cells and reducing inflammation.
Treats demodex mites, which are a common yet overlooked cause of chronic dry eye symptoms.
Stimulates meibomian gland function, improving the quality of the tear film and reducing dryness.
NuLids is particularly beneficial for individuals experiencing:
Chronic dry eye symptoms, including irritation, burning, or redness.
Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), which can cause blocked oil glands and lead to poor tear film quality.
Blepharitis, a condition that causes inflammation and crusting along the eyelid margin.
Demodex infestations, which can contribute to persistent eye discomfort.
NuLids stands out as a non-invasive, drug-free solution for those struggling with dry eye and lid margin disease. By incorporating it into a regular eye care routine, patients can improve their symptoms, prevent further gland dysfunction, and maintain healthier eyes over time.
Don't let dry, irritated eyes disrupt your daily life. NuLids offers a simple yet effective way to improve eyelid health and enhance tear production for long-term relief. Whether you're dealing with blepharitis, meibomian gland dysfunction, or demodex, this innovative treatment can help restore comfort and clarity.

"This quick 5 minute procedure will cleanse your lids and lashes, reducing inflammation caused by demodex and blepharitis, leaving them feeling refreshed. When used quarterly, in conjunction with home maintenance, the NuLids procedure is more effective in improving dry, burning, itchy or watery eye symptoms than with home cleaning alone." - Dr Tina
"Demodex folliculorum (D. folliculorum) and Demodex brevis (D. brevis) are the only two species of mites that affect humans (1,2). D. folliculorum infests the hair follicle, while D. brevis resides in the sebaceous and meibomian glands (2-4). Ocular demodicosis has been implicated in ocular surface inflammation, including blepharitis, eyelash disorders, meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), chalazia, and blepharoconjunctivitis (BKC) (5-10). The incidence of Demodex infestation increases with age: it is observed in 84% of the general population aged over 60 years and 100% of the general population over 70 years old but is reported to be very rare in healthy children under 16 years of age (11-13). However, we previously reported ocular Demodex infestation in 12 paediatric patients who were diagnosed with BKC but failed to respond to conventional treatments (8). To the best of our knowledge, this was the first time that Demodex infestation was detected in children without systemically immunocompromised status. Recently, we conducted an epidemiological survey and revealed a low Demodex mite count in 12.0% of healthy Chinese children aged between 3 and 14 years (14)."
